ARM Developers' Conference Communicate, Connect, Create October 7th-9th 2008

keynote [PRESENTATIONS]

Tuesday, October 7, 2008
11:00am - 12:00pm

Warren East, CEO, ARM
The Web Driven Society - Trends, Challenges and Opportunities

Experts claim the consumer electronics marketplace and landscape in five years time will have advanced at a staggering pace. Fueling this evolutionary shift are changes in social networking, web access technology and robust, high performance electronic devices. Warren East will highlight the industry investments being made to deliver the most energy efficient, high performance solutions for developers in Web 2.0, microcontrollers, embedded software development and advanced graphics, that will deliver web-based electronic devices for the foundation of future consumer lifestyles.

Kevin Meyer, Vice President, Industry Marketing and Platform Alliances, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing
Interdependence in an Era of Accelerating Technologies

Increasing complexity in this new era of accelerating technologies is the shared challenge of our industry. Whether you are developing networked applications or an interactive RTOS, architecting a multi- CPU system, designing a multi-million transistor SOC, or inventing the next generation of process technology for megafab manufacturing at nano-geometries, it is nearly impossible to do it alone. Long gone are the days of single companies funding proprietary solutions to meet market needs. The new successful industry models are based on open collaboration among interlinked ecosystems for vertically optimized solution stacks. This keynote will examine the value of interdependence and collaborative innovation, and includes a case study on a joint implementation between ARM, with its CPU and physical IP portfolio, and the Common Platform manufacturing partners — IBM, Chartered and Samsung, on 32nm high-k, metal-gate technology derived from a joint development alliance with their system partners, Freescale, Infineon, STMicroelectronics, and Toshiba.

11:00am - 11:30pm

Bill Miller, Director of FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST
Future Innovation Is Dependent on Inspiring the Youth

Over the last decade there has been a steady decline in engineering and computer programming graduates. What was once seen as the holy grail of jobs promising riches and fame is now seen as a boring and fruitless occupation. A not-for-profit public charity, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is hoping to change that, and has already proven that under the right environment, the youth can be inspired to pursue engineering and science degrees. FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math; while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. FIRST’s vision is to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes. Bill Miller of FIRST will provide valuable insight into infusing passion for science and engineering back into the youth and how ARM is at the foundation of providing the technology and solutions that spawn their creativity.

11:35am - 1:25pm

ARM Product Roadmaps and Future Technologies

ARM has become the most pervasive embedded architecture of the 21st century. What lies ahead for ARM and their industry leading architecture? This informative five part presentation will detail ARM strategies and future technologies to address the evolving technical requirements for web 2.0, high end graphics, system performance and battery consumption and storage and networking systems.

Each presentation will provide details on how ARM and their Connected Community is laying the foundation for enabling the industry to satisfy the ever increasing demands in these critical applications.
